JOHANN HAUSER'S WORK WAS SOME OF MY FAVOURITE IN THE MUSUEM OF EVERYTHING. HIS SIMPLE LINE DRAWINGS WERE BOUGHT TO LIFE BY HIS VIVID AND BOLD USE OF COLOUR - WHICH LOOKED LIKE IT HAD BEEN APPLIED USING EITHER HEAVY COLOURED PENCIL OR OIL PASTELS. THIS GAVE THE WORK A SENSE OF GRAVITAS THAT IT MIGHT OTHERWISE HAVE LACKED.
THE INTUITIVE NATURE OF THE WORK AND THE SENSE THAT THIS WAS WORK MADE EXACTLY AS THE ARTIST SAW IT WITH NO ATTEMPT TO MAKE IT LOOK PERFECT REALLY HELPS YOU TO UNDERSTAND WHAT OUTSIDER ART IS ALL ABOUT. IT IS NOT ABOUT BEING TRAINED TO MAKE THINGS LOOK EXACTLY AS THEY SHOULD, BUT ARE INSTEAD OFTEN HOW SOMEONE FEELS ABOUT THINGS OR HOW THEY SEE THEM..
THE OTHER THING ABOUT THIS WORK, AND NEARLY ALL OF THE OUTSIDER ART SHOWN AT THE MUSEUM OF EVERYTHING IS THAT THE ARTISTS WILL OFTEN SIGN THEIR WORK, SHOWING AGAIN A SENSE OF THE ARTIST BEING PROUD OF WHAT THEY HAV E DONE AND NOT FEELING LIKE IT SHOULD BE ANYTHING THAT IT IS NOT
