JEREMEY DELLER IS A COMTEMPORARY ARTIST WHO HAS OVER HIS CAREER ALWAYS LOOKED AT SOCIO-POLITICAL ISSUES AND MORE RECENTLY FOLK ART FROM THE UK. I WROTE MY DISSERTATION ON HIS COLLABORATIVE PROJECT WITH ED HALL CALLED 'FOLK ARCHIVE'
PART OF MY RESEARCH WAS LOOKING AT THE WAY HE COLLABORATED HIS INFORMATION TO FORM THE SHOW IN TO A COHERENT BODY OF WORK. HE RECENTLY ORGANISED A SHOW AT THE PALAIS DE TOKYO IN PARIS WHERE HE PRETTY MUCH FOLLOWED THE SAME FORMULA USED IN THE FOLK ARCHIVE SHOW, JUST ADAPTING IT SLIGHTLY FOR THE DIFFERENCE IN GALLERY SPACE.
IF I WERE TO THINK MY A-Z'S AS AN ARCHIVE OF A GROUP OF PEOPLE, I THINK IT WOULD BE IMPORTANT FOR ME TO STUDY CLOSELY THE WAY THAT JEREMY DELLER ORGANISED HIS SHOW, ESPECIALLY AS HIS WAS THE FIRST SHOW OF FOLK ART (FORMING AN ARCHIVE) THAT HAD BEEN IN THIS COUNTRY FOR FIFTY YEARS.
THE FOLK ARCHIVE NOW ONLY EXISTS IN A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT ON THE BRITISH COUNCIL WEBSITE. THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO SEE THE LAYOUT AND WAYS OF COLLECTING AND CURATING LOTS OF SMALL BITS OF INFORMATION IN ONE PLACE...
